Things You Don’t Know About Me

Hey everyone,

Today’s topic is much more personal than the past several posts I made. For Day 9 of my 20 posts in 20 days, I’m going with 10 things people don’t know about me. Some are fairly obvious to my close friends, but others will be completely new to everyone.

Number 10 – The Army of Paladins
Something that is considered common knowledge to those who have known me for a few weeks, or have seen my Icy Veins signature, know that I love Paladins, however, most people seem to underestimate just how much. I have 9 characters at 80 or higher, and 4 of them are Paladins. When the prepurchase 90 is released, I am likely going to get a 5th paladin (would be my 3rd 90 currently, soon to be 4th thanks to my level 86 Dwarf Paladin). The interesting thing about this that not many people know is that I have never once played Retribution. Ever. (This is excluding times I had to play ret in MSV to coin haste gear for prot, because I didn’t try to learn it, and was using Shadowmourne)

Number 9 – Chicken and Potato
The meal of a champion, well more like the meal of Fouton. Easily my two favorite foods, I often have mashed or baked potato up to 3-4 times a week, and usually its more than one potato when I do. Chicken is also close to the same, it’s often a topping on my pizzas, salads, or other non chicken based meals. My ideal home would have a freezer dedicated to cooked and uncooked chickens I can use, while having its own Minecraft-style potato farm.

Number 8 – Goaltending
As I mentioned in my intro post that talked about myself, I love being a goaltender for Ice Hockey. However what most people don’t know is that it would be my favorite career choice. I absolutely love the rush it brings, and I’ve always dreamed of making the NHL. Sadly, I never knew where to start, and am fairly small in build, so I never brought it up from a casual level. I’m also very proud to be able to say that my team won the championships of our league 3 times in 4 years, with me being the MVP for several seasons. I also have decent amount of MVP trophies, a skills competition, and a few tournament wins. I absolutely love the sport, and would give everything I had to be a professional goaltender.

Number 7 – Metric
My favorite band of all time is easily Metric. I’ll give you a bit of a personal history with them. I was first introduced to them in grade 10 or so by my friend Emily, and from there I had slowly listened to more and more of their songs. I had also been known to have tremendous rage issues, which shined when I played PvP games with some inadequate players, though mostly players that purposely didn’t try. For the first time ever, I decided to let it all go, and listen to some music (41 Metric songs on shuffled loop). Within an hour I was playing peacefully with my durptastic teammates, and since that day I’ve had very little rage. I would say that Metric saved my life.

Number 6 – Favorite Shows
I’m not much of a fan of movies. You won’t often see me at the movie theaters, and you won’t often see me purchasing movies from a store. What you will see is me using netflix very frequently for my top three favorite shows. How I Met Your Mother was easily the most viewed show for over 2 years from me, and now with the addiction of the 2005 Doctor Who series, I’ve started to watch that series again. I also have most episodes of American Dad, Futurama, and Family Guy on DVD. I’m mostly a comedy watcher, but most genres entertain me. The best way for me to watch a show and enjoy it is to sit down with one of my close friends and watch it together.

Number 5 – Master of Colours
One of the least known facts about myself (Mainly because I’ve forgot about the cubes sitting at the corner of my desk) is that I can solve 3 types of Rubik’s Cubes. 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cubes I am able to solve in under 2 minutes, 5x5x5 I can solve within 10 minutes, and the 4x4x4 I used to be able to solve within 20 minutes, though I haven’t played with the 4 in a long time because it has some very obnoxious rules towards fixing some alignment issues. They’re a lot of fun to show that you know how to solve them, and they’re surprisingly easy. All there is to solving the 3x3x3 cube is 4-5 memorized patterns, and knowing how to apply each one in the correct order. It’s more repetitive than anything else, but looks really cool if you do it really fast.

Number 4 – Injuries
I’m known to be very injury resistant throughout my life, except for two spots on my body: both of my hands. I’ve had the tendon on my ring finger of each hand get cut by having a football hit the tips of them too hard, I’ve bent the bone on my right hand’s ring finger when I was in highschool, and my pinky finger of my left hand cannot be fully straitened on it’s own. Surprisingly enough, none of these injuries were long term except for one of the tendon breaks which took me out of my hockey league for one whole season.

Number 3 – Game Ideas
One of my hobbies I enjoy working on is creating game ideas, building off of those ideas, and developing a frame for a game. They usually don’t come off the ground and go anywhere, but I have several ideas going on that I think would go well when Xbox One or Playstation 4 unveil more detailed explanations on how their Indie Development is going to work. These qualities are often seen through my posts as well, you will see me analyze problems with a game and state solutions that I deem reasonable for a company to be able to complete.

Number 2 – Second Best Career
As you saw from Number 8, I would absolutely love to be an NHL Goaltender, but what is my second favorite dream? Personally I had never really thought of it, so I have been going to university and college with a vague idea of what to do. At first I wanted to be a Chemical Engineer, but after finding out it lacked chemistry, I moved to Accounting since I excel at mathematics. However, all this was simply for a feasible job that could pay out nicely for the rest of my life, instead of what I loved the most. Right now I’m finally seeing what that really is, working for my favorite games in a very community based way. The blog has opened my mind up to the aspect of being a part of the community, and I really hope it grows from there. I would love to be a top WoW blog writer, maybe with a podcast and stream, all while working for Blizzard, or a highly respected website that works alongside Blizzard. I think it would be tons of fun.

Number 1 – Fears
I’ve never spent too long thinking about my own fears, but there’s some that come to mind. The first is loneliness. I can deal with having no friends in real life, or no friends in games, or just friends that I can talk to from time to time. However if there is one thing I never want to experience; it’s having no community of friends or fellow gamers around me to talk to. If I were stuck without internet for a week, I could manage through games. Without internet for a month, I’d be in serious trouble because my interactions with the world is what sustains me. Anything past that I think I would actually go insane if I didn’t find a suitable replacement for the network of friends and relationships I’ve developed over the years.

There’s probably more that I haven’t thought of, but these are the main parts of my life that I can think of off the top of my head. If you share any similarities with me on these topics, let me know and we can have some fun chatting about it!

Thanks for reading, I hope you look forward to the future posts. Leaving feedback or suggestions is appreciated. As a final reminder (and shameless plug), I am the Paladin Moderater on Icy Veins, one of the leading sites for all sorts of WoW Guides. I recommend checking them out as you main source of class knowledge.
